Please use only tips you understand &#8211; if you don&#8217;t know what a <q>factory reset<\/q> means, you do not want to find out :)<!--more--><\/p>\n<h4>Explanation<\/h4>\n<p>\u201ePinch\u201c means using 2 fingers to zoom in our out (Google it if you don&#8217;t know the word). There you can enable different shortcuts for the lockscreen and modify them, display a clock, current weather and you can enable a nice shortcut for quick camera access [holding the device straight, tapping and holding the screen and then rotating the device].<\/p>\n<p>Use S-Voice to unlock the phone: Choose &#8220;Wake up in Samsung Unlock&#8221; in the above menu.<\/p>\n<h3>Battery percentage display<\/h3>\n<p>Go to &#8220;Settings&#8221; -> &#8220;Display&#8221; -> &#8220;Display battery percentage&#8221; to show an additional percentage display next to the battery icon.<\/p>\n<h3>Application drawer by alphabet<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/app-grid-view.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/app-grid-view-67x120.png\" alt=\"App drawer grid view\" title=\"app grid view\" width=\"67\" height=\"120\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-7216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/app-grid-view-67x120.png 67w, https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/app-grid-view-168x300.png 168w, https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/app-grid-view-576x1024.png 576w, https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/app-grid-view.png 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 67px) 100vw, 67px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the application drawer you can choose an additional view setting: &#8220;Alphabetical grid&#8221;. Open the app drawer, click <strong>menu<\/strong>, then &#8220;View Type&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h3>Disable shutter sound [root only]<\/h3>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t like the camera shutter sound you can disable it by renaming the following file: <kbd>\/system\/media\/audio\/ui\/Shutter.ogg<\/kbd> &#8211; therefore root access is required. I haven&#8217;t yet found out how to disable the shutter sound for burst shots.<\/p>\n<h3>Additional free apps from Samsung<\/h3>\n<p>There are some additional apps from samsung which can be installed for free: Start &#8220;Samsung Apps&#8221;, click on &#8220;Category&#8221; and then choose &#8220;More Services&#8221;. Apps I found useful:<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8220;Flipboard&#8221;, which is a very nice looking news reader &#8211; including Google Reader, Twitter and Facebook integration.<br \/>\n<br \/>&#8220;Photo Editor&#8221;, a good picture editing app.\n<\/p>\n<h3>Custom vibration patterns<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/custom-vibration-pattern.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/custom-vibration-pattern-67x120.png\" alt=\"Create your own vibration patterns\" title=\"custom vibration pattern\" width=\"67\" height=\"120\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-7217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/custom-vibration-pattern-67x120.png 67w, https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/custom-vibration-pattern-168x300.png 168w, https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/custom-vibration-pattern-576x1024.png 576w, https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/custom-vibration-pattern.png 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 67px) 100vw, 67px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can create your own vibration patterns here: &#8220;Settings&#8221; > &#8220;Sound&#8221; > &#8220;Device Vibration&#8221;. Then click &#8220;Create&#8221; and press the wheel to create patterns.<\/p>\n<h3>In Call EQ<\/h3>\n<p>A bit hidden: Open keypad, press <strong>menu<\/strong>, choose &#8220;Call settings&#8221;, &#8220;Additional settings&#8221; and scroll down. There you can select different equalizer settings for calls and create a personalized one.<\/p>\n<h3>User interface<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"linklist\">\n<li>Phone wake up: Via <strong>home<\/strong> or <strong>power<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Hold <strong>menu<\/strong>: Quick access Android search.<\/li>\n<li>Reboot: Hold <strong>menu<\/strong> and <strong>volume up<\/strong> for 8 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Double click <strong>home<\/strong>: Quick access voice commands &#8211; you can toggle this in the settings from &#8220;S Voice&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Screenshots 1: Press <strong>home<\/strong> and <strong>power<\/strong> simultaneously. Screenshots are copied to the clipboard.<\/li>\n<li>Screenshots 2: Enable &#8220;Palm swipe to capture&#8221; in &#8220;Settings&#8221; > &#8220;Motion&#8221;, then wipe the hand across the screen. Screenshots are saved in <kbd>\/sdcard\/Pictures\/Screenshots\/<\/kbd><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Home screen<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"linklist\">\n<li>Multiple home screens: Touch the dots to switch directly to a screen or hold and drag left\/right to scroll very fast.<\/li>\n<li>Changing shortcuts at the bottom:\u00a0Open the App drawer (bottom right), drag an application to the home screen. Then drag it onto one of the shortcut locations.<\/li>\n<li>Quick view current date: Hold the notification bar (on the top).<\/li>\n<li>Pinch home screen to view all home screens and add\/delete them.<\/li>\n<li>Pinch application drawer to view all application screens and reorder them.<\/li>\n<li>Set background image for lock screen: Change background images in &#8220;Settings&#8221; > &#8220;Wallpaper&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Android Apps<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"linklist\">\n<li><em>E-Mail<\/em>: Pinch in the overview list to fold\/unfold by date.<\/li>\n<li><em>Contacts<\/em>: Drag left over a contact to send SMS, drag right to call.<\/li>\n<li><em>Keypad<\/em>: Use the letters on number keys to type a name, the triangle on the right shows how many matching contacts are found, clicking on it reveals them.<\/li>\n<li><em>Camera<\/em>:\u00a0Change shortcut buttons by clicking <strong>menu<\/strong>, &#8220;Edit&#8221;, then modify shortcut buttons via drag&amp;drop. You can configure shortcuts for picture and video mode independently.<\/li>\n<li><em>Camera<\/em>:\u00a0Pinch to zoom in\/out.<\/li>\n<li><em>Browser<\/em>:\u00a0Pinch to view all tabs.<\/li>\n<li><em>Browser<\/em>: Go to &#8220;about:debug&#8221; via address bar. If so, you have to remove this before uninstalling (Settings > Security > Device Administrators).<\/li>\n<li>Samsung offers a free service to track and control a lost or stolen mobile: Enable &#8220;Remote Access&#8221; in Settings\/Location and Security. Then login at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.samsungdive.com\" class=\"external\">www.samsungdive.com<\/a> (with your Samsung account data) to locate and remote control your phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Force TW Launcher in memory [root only]<\/h3>\n<p><em>If done wrong your phone might be unusable.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Open \/system\/build.prop as root with a text editor.
