{"id":7001,"date":"2012-01-27T20:19:03","date_gmt":"2012-01-27T19:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/?p=7001"},"modified":"2012-01-27T20:30:53","modified_gmt":"2012-01-27T19:30:53","slug":"from-sopa-to-acta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.chipwreck.de\/blog\/2012\/01\/27\/from-sopa-to-acta\/","title":{"rendered":"From SOPA to ACTA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a shame and a sad irony that I have to swap the &#8220;STOP CENSORSHIP&#8221;-banner for the &#8220;STOP ACTA&#8221;-logo on my website.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The on- and offline protests against SOPA have at least delayed voting on SOPA\/PIPA and &#8211; as it seems &#8211; stopped this <q>legislation<\/q> (read: lobbying) for the near future. Since I&#8217;m not American, putting up a banner and spreading the word about SOPA\/PIPA were my means of protest against it.<\/p>\n<h3>But it continues..<\/h3>\n<p>Lobbying and corruption are of course a global threats. Some days ago the EU signed ACTA. <q>The EU<\/q> is of course a shameless euphemism, because it wasn&#8217;t the democratically elected European Parliament which signed it &#8211; it was the European Commission (plus presidency and states), which can be read as: Lobbyists  signing their own treaty.<\/p>\n<h3>ACTA &#8211; what?<\/h3>\n<p>There are plenty of well-written explanations what ACTA is &#8211; see next paragaraph or this video (subtitles in several languages present):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/citzRjwk-sQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>What to do?<\/h3>\n<p>Also in this case there is hope: The final decision about ACTA lies at the European Parliament.
